One Man’s Wilderness
written by Sam Keith from the journals of Richard Proenneke

At age 50, Richard Proenneke decided to retire and follow his dream. “While I’m still able,” he said. Now in his 80’s, Proenneke has been living his dream of building a cabin and living on the land for more than 30 years. Twenty-six years ago, his story, retold in One Man’s Wilderness, An Alaskan Odyessey, captured the imagination of a world that was taking more aggressive steps to protect wilderness and the environment, and the back-to-the-land movement was just beginning. One Man’s Wilderness, written by Sam Keith from Proenneke’s journals, follows this resourceful and solitary man through the first year of his new life.

Greetings –
We know everyone is busy selling books so we’ll limit our communication to the essential. What follows are the author/title events that should drive sales into your stores. There are two titles of note. The first, Star Palate, has received nationwide media coverage including a segment on the Today Show on November 23rd. The second, One Man's Wilderness, has aired on public television stations in more than 75 markets as part of the Alone in the Wilderness special. Both books are selling exceptionally well.

You'll see we've been hard at work promoting all our different titles and we hope this helps to carry the sales from the holiday season on into the new year. All of us at GACPC wish you the best for the holiday season. Thank you for a wonderful 2004 and we look forward to continuing successes in 2005!

Cheers,

Mike Jones

ONE MAN’S WILDERNESS – Companion to the hit PBS television sensation

Awarded the 1999 History Biography “National Outdoor Book Award”

One Man’s Wilderness is the companion book to the documentary, Alone in the Wilderness which is currently showing in twenty five major U.S. markets on PBS television stations (over 100 air times) during the four-week period that started Nov 15th. The program became a hit in March of this year at the Minneapolis PBS station. By summer it was picked up a number of PBS stations around the country including Seattle, and Los Angeles. It is now airing in NYC, Tampa, Chicago, etc, and being repeated in the rest of the big markets. It’s pledge time for many of these stations and both book and DVD have become two of the hottest pledge items/gifts across the country.

GACPC sold out of the most-recent printing two weeks after its arrival into our warehouses and are expecting another shipment of book, December 8th. Since March of this year, the book has sold over 25,000 copies and sales show no signs of slowing.
